The Great One, Wayne Gretzky, said, “Procrastination is one of the most common and deadliest of diseases, and its toll on success and happiness is heavy.” He should know. You don’t become the greatest hockey player of all time by procrastinating.
Successful people plan and act. Taking just a few minutes to plan unlocks the potential of each day. But we all plan differently. We have different scheduling needs, so choosing the right planner has to be a personal decision. There is no one-size-fits-all planner out there. Your planner will work best for you if it suits your planning style.
So, what do you look for in a planner?
The Daily Planner
If your days are often filled with meetings, appointments, and tasks, a daily planner may be what you’re looking for. A planner that gives you room for each aspect of your day, from a prioritized task list, to appointments, and notes, can bring a sense of balance to your life and help you find those open moments in the day when you can work on your personal goals.
This structured planner may feel somewhat strange at first, but in time you’ll find that using one is actually liberating because it helps you focus your time. Our structured daily planner is available in one-page-per-day format or two-page-per-day format, depending on how much space you think you’ll need for daily appointments and notes.
The Weekly Planner
If your days aren’t always busy but your weeks are full, the weekly planner may suit you best. Weekly planners are a great way to view your whole week at a glance. Weekly planners can help you remember upcoming activities that may involve your children, friends, or co-workers. They’ll help ensure that you get where you need to be on time. Be sure to also schedule personal time in your weekly planner so you can work toward your personal goals.
Our weekly planners come in various formats, but each provides room to schedule daily events and space for notes and ideas.
FC Studio Weekly Planner
If you use your planner as a personal record of your life, you’ll love the FC Studio Planner. This customizable, wire-bound planner gives you room to be creative like no other planner can.
Fun additions to this planner include a convenient perpetual calendar, designated space for journaling, a sturdy folder to keep loose papers together, colorful stickers to help you remember important events, and a handy zipper pouch for storing pens and pencils. The planner also boasts plenty of blank and lined pages – great for when inspiration strikes.
Each weekly spread gives you room for memories, ideas, notes, dreams, and to-dos. Its two-page monthly calendar tabs are offset with a creatively displayed full-page quote, and the cover can be customized with your name on the front and a photo on the back. Other customization options are also available. You can learn more about FC Studio here.
The Six-Month Planning Notebook
If your planning is less structured, but you like to have plenty of room to write, the Six-Month Planning Notebook may be perfect. These slim books give you a full page for each day and allow you to take notes, set your schedule, and create to-do lists easily. The open planning system gives you room to be creative.
All of our planners include two-page monthly calendar tabs that let you see your month at a glance. For some of you, that may be all you need to stay on schedule.
If that describes you, take a look at our monthly planners. They’re designed to show each month on a two-page spread so you can keep track of the big events in your life.
How big should your planner be? That depends on how you intend to use it.
Monarch, or largest planner measures 8.5” W x 11” H, the same as a regular sheet of paper in the U.S. This planner is great if you like to take copious notes, or if you prefer to write large. It works nicely as a desktop planner, but it can travel with you when you need it.
Classic, our most popular planner size, measures 5.5” W x 8.5” H, the same as a half sheet of paper. This size is convenient because you can carry documents in it simply by folding them in half. Classic planners fit nicely in most purses, handbags, or briefcases.
Compact planners are almost as popular as our Classic size. They measure 4.25” W x 6.75” H, and are easy to take almost anywhere. Compact planners have the same layout as classic planners, giving you room for your schedule and notes, but in a slightly smaller size. These planners travel easily throughout your day and can keep you on schedule with less bulk.
Pocket planners are intended for use on the go. They measure 3.5” W x 6” H and fit well inside purses and lapel pockets. These little planners can act as the perfect reminders as you scurry from event to event throughout your day. You will sacrifice some space for notes and daily tasks, but this little planner may be perfect for you—especially if you find that you’re always on the go.
Because the FC Studio Weekly Planner is a journal, scrapbook, and planner rolled into one, it comes in a creative size as well. FC Studio measures 7.25” W x 9.25” H x 1” D. Still very portable, it offers more room for journaling and displaying your thoughts and images.
Hopefully these tips have given you something to consider as you purchase your next planner. Our goal is to help you reach your highest potential, and the right planner for you can make a big difference.
